I have criticisms of the toolset itself, but what turned me off it is how (some of?) the Nix community frequently ask open source projects to restructure everything for a build tool the project doesn't even use, and that multiple difficult to debug Gleam issues turned out to be...
...that the Gleam binary was in some subtle way broken as a result of the 3rd party Nix script used to build it. No other build tool or community causes these problems or adds this extra work to open source projects, at least not in my experience.
That aside I really do like the idea behind much of the project. I'd love to see new projects that tackle a subset of the problems Nix(/OS) tackles, with different execution.
