Unpopular opinion:
If someone made a competitor to TypeScript with the simplicity of Swift’s type system and Go’s assignments, they’d be rich*

*rich in this case, meaning lots of OSS burden

Most of typescript's problems stem from trying to retroactively type whatever crazy stuff people do with their dynamic JavaScript, idk if there's a way to avoid that problem without treating existing js as a foreign language. Although maybe gleam has had more success there, I haven't tried it yet

In a vacuum I agree. Trying to meaningfully improve an existing legacy codebase that way is just too hard. Typescript's super power is that it "speaks for itself" and team members slowly adopt it as they see the wins. A whole new language is such a hard pitch

I'm optimising for the long game. A tool that is easy at the start but is hard at the end and brings less productivity isn't one I'm interested in using.

Sidenote, calling swift simple is a little surprising considering swift is so complex the compiler has to ask you break up statements that are too hard for it to type
