I would think is is purely an exercise in not making the court look entirely bent, he will still appeal the conviction for which the supreme court will find a reason to vindicate his assertion of innocence.

Alito is beyond corrupt - absolutely no way he should have been involved in this decision. The lifetime appointment and impossibility to remove even most corrupt justice is a dreadful thing for American democracy.

But that’s all it is is symbolism and it shows just how corrupt the US legal system is that with money & influence you can avoid prison or real justice (just look at all the cases against him that got abandoned because of the election). There’s the real two tier justice it’s American

I don't agree. Judge and legal teams in an impossible position, have found an elegant solution that makes the point without straining the country's constitutional fabric more than it already is. There were many, many easier ways out. Accepting a delay would have been much easier and let him off. ~AA
