I wonder what the millions of people conned into believing Brexit would mean LESS red tape for British business - a central plank of the Leave campaign - think of those who sold that lie now. ~AA

But I wonder why business people believed there would be less red tape when we exited the customs union (perhaps they didn't think we would exit the CU). It was pretty obvious that redtape would go up.
I get what you're saying and I would agree with that point when it comes to the man in the street. When it comes to businesses they have to take responsibility for the decisions they make because they should have taken the time to evaluate the information as you do with any business decision.
They'll lay identify the introduction of all this 'needless' bureaucracy as evidence of the incompetence of the previous 2 administrations & accuse them of not taking advantage of the opportunities Brexit affords. 'Only Reform can slash the red tape' etc.
Another example where Farage (who is partly responsible for Brexit and the red tape British business is now forced to comply with), gets away with not explaining how he would resolve the issue.
The media focus on polls emphasising Reform getting 20-25% it should emphasise 75-80% don’t want Farage

How some of these people became successful in business, I have no idea (well, being selfish shits, I imagine).
The EU IS the single market and/or Customs Union. That's it. You're not in the EU, then trading with them is more costly and complicated.
