❗ Keir Starmer is close to striking a major deal with the EU on defence.
Under the agreement, UK defence companies would be able to bid for business under the EU's new €150 billion defence fund.

This is negotiation.
Build trust.
So... lots of people I'd guess, not least fishermen. 😋
AND they voted for Brexit overwhelmingly, I struggle to see the need to sacrifice the national interest on their behalf.
Until Starmer sorts out trade with the EU he and Reeves will not attain their beloved growth.
Trouble is that with trade they are turning to Trump = utter disaster.
Just stop it, Starmer
A) a deal with the US doesn’t prevent a deal with the EU.
B) the EU has chosen to push back TCA talks until 2026. We have no way to bring those forward.
C) the defence & security talks are linked as we are using the leverage we have in this to assist in trade talks
It’s not going to happen, you both need to build trust and that takes time.
Haven't got decades to waste.
We couldn’t rejoin now even if we tried. We’d never get the unanimous votes & the EU would be mad to take us back when the opposition is still Brexity.
& UK voters aren’t ready for the cost of rejoining, it’d be a boon for NF
Instead, they want A NEW UK-EU customs agreement.
Which is what we need to be looking at - bespoke arrangements to remove barriers.
If you want to see the UK helped now, then you look for bespoke agreements, starting with areas which are easier to work out and expanding over time.
EU CU is for EU member states only. Third countries like Turkey or the UK must negotiate their own, more limited, CU’s.
The media is never going to support rejoining, until it’s inevitable, then it won’t be fast enough or on the right terms.
We need to persuade people about what rejoining looks like & the compromises necessary & what the benefits are
No thanks.
The non dom £millionaire-owned media will hate on Starmer whatever he does.
So grow some & go for a customs union & access to the single market again - the one Vote Leave said no-one was thinking of leaving.
The best we can do at present is mitigate damage, restore the relationship & see what’s available then
Polling suggests that people aren’t realistic about what rejoining entails, are still infected by exceptionalism & don’t understand what’s a cost and what is a benefit in terms of EU membership.
Hilariously and inexplicably the group of people most determined to stop Starmer from fixing Brexit are hardcore remain voters.
Rejoining isn’t viable either domestically or in the EU at present. Maybe after the next election depending.
British waters are not ecologically reliable!
