As much as we like to think funds for public schools come from property taxes and the state, the feds are responsible for a smaller percentage of school aid. In New York, it’s a little over 7%.

That was to make up a shortfall that amounted to less than 0.3% of the budget.
What happens when you expect fed funding to the tune of 7% and when you go to get it, it’s just – not there?
Because that’s what could happen with DOGE setting its sights on the DOE.
It’s nothing compared to having to make up 7%.
Your public school won’t be recognizable by the time your school board gets done with the draconian cuts that will be required.
They’ll cut transportation and still be looking around for stuff to cut. Canceled capital projects.
THAT kind of a budget cut.
And I don’t see anyone talking about it.
