Maybe it’s not bad faith but a different interpretation of “the economy.” People (on both sides) seem ready to break from capitalism. Trump offers authoritarian oligarchy/feudalism. Vance/RFK flirt with a pastoral past. Bernie tapped into this in ‘16 and ‘20. Harris offered more of the same.
So much of life is just how people feel about stuff. Not how it actually is. How you feel about what is, that's the way you experience it. And we have a turbo charged information/media space telling people to feel good or bad depending on political alignment
Biden ruined the economy, and now that Joe Biden will not be president in the future the economy is immediately fixed, even before any policy change. This is common sense, I have decided.
Not sure what "the economy" is though, pretty sure it's slang for "vibes I feel about the current President."
When average Americans speak of the economy they are speaking of their personal wallet not the actual metrics that are used to determine what is a good economy or bad.
Totally agree, we over index on macro numbers that aren't particularly relevant to our daily lives (unless you're literally an economist). We ought to focus on some of the other numbers that come out like the basket price of goods.
Yesterday the today show was mentioning all the things that are cheaper now as compared to last Christmas. It sickens me that they can’t in good faith mention this has nothing to do with the election
I remember a similar phenomenon after the 2016 election. His supporters claiming they were already benefiting from his policies. Ya know, the ones that had yet to be implemented since he wasn’t in office yet.
It's consistently strange (in a good way) to get trenchant political insight from the guy I mostly recall from the "NFL position groups tweet like this" banger.
