I understand some people are career-driven and get a lot of fulfillment out of that, but I don't see why workplace expectations should be built around them! (I mean the answer is obviously our economic system, but still)
like to be clear I'm not saying I hate my job or that I don't want to do a good job (or that I think I shouldn't be expected to do a good job). I just don't want to advance in it. I'm fine where I am, but if I said that to a prospective employer I'd look like I don't care
I was just ranting about this to a friend! What if I just want to do my job and live my life without being penalized for not chasing the next promotion?
I especially don't wanna advance in it if it means twice the responsibilities for only $1/hour more pay!! I love being at my current position at work bc I'm good at it and doing extra work is applauded instead of expected lmao
I have a career-type job now doing work that I'm genuinely interested in, but all the years I worked as an admin assistant in whatever I could find that paid the bills and was tolerable, I hated that stuff. I didn't want a career as an admin; I just wanted to do a good job and not hate work.

it is *also* fulfilling in a "working for the greater good" sort of way but that can only matter for so long without the other stuff
