I think it is a good way to implement home and the playthrough of the pokemon games. It is something to work towards and a reward for the time and effort put it. Yes it does feel a little cheap since we haven't been able to freely hunt them, but on the other end. It's a good integration to get them.

Personally i think that its both a good thing but also possibly a bad sign, if they keep making mythicals only available through dex completion rewards like these id say its more bad, but the fact this possibly means they might want to make shiny mythicals huntable in the future is also really cool!

If we’re going to have shiny locks, and if Pokémon are going to be distributed, the home dex rewards are the way to do it. It gets people to play the games and do the whole catch em all thing. There is a time investment, and while it isn’t luck based, at least it’s not a free gift for nothing.

I think it’s fine personally, not everyone has the time to grind for endless hours, days, or even months to get the funny different coloured lil guy.

Mythicals especially being locked behind certain events, even if they aren’t locked.

It’d be preferred if we could hunt them too, though

I would rather be able to hunt each one in game but tbh this is a really good way to give players a journey to acquire them

Ive been completing my Home dexes out of habit so I've gotten them all instantly and will still hunt manaphy the old way but its good overall!

I'd prefer to be able to hunt them but being able to even own them at all is very nice and it's more than a simple gift. Gives me a reason to actually deposit more than just duplicate shinies into Home.

I don't really care about them because I'm going to do lock removal for them anyways, but I think they are good rewards for completing dexes in HOME, but I would like the possibility to hunt them if I wanted to

I like them personally! I think giving players shinies as a reward for doing something is 10x cooler than just getting a distribution from the mail man….

But man I really wish I could just hunt them

It's something at minimum, and something for everyone. Buuut it equates to a boy receiving a Hello Kitty Band-aid from the doctor's office after a shot. It does its job at distribution, but there are better/cooler things to go about making them available, despite it still being a "hunt"

I love it! Back in the days "Gotta catch 'em all!" was very hard to do because you actually needed multiple games and consoles OR by have kids in your area who happen to also play and have the game(s) you didnt have.

Every generation has improved on dex completion and HOME makes it very achievable

LGPE and L:A are games focused on catching pokemon, with the latter being an experimental title focusing on you the player creating The First Pokédex.

This could indicate the series going back to its roots, making pokedex completion more and more rewarding, not just giving you the shiny charm.

Game Freak have been extremely pro-shiny locks since gen 5 and for most story-related pokemon it makes sense.

Some shiny locks dont make sense. It's been a trend for GF to release a shiny as an event before having it be huntable in other games (Gen 7 Tapu Koko/Solgaleo/Lunala -> DAs)

With the HOME dex reward system, you get people exited about catching pokemon WHILE releasing the shinies as permanent events, rather than a single gamestop code.

If you can get a shiny Meloetta anytime as an event, GF probably wont have the same reason to lock it in future titles

With HOME dex rewards, players can get the shinies, Niantic can sell them in Go and GF can worry less about shiny locks.

If the events came out with the games' final updates, the Keldeo in SwSh (im assuming thats gonna be the reward) probably wouldnt be shiny locked.

a shiny pokemon that i know exactly how and when it will appear is not a real shiny to me, it's just a palette swap. has none of the appeal of shiny hunting (the journey of finding it, the surprise from when it appears, and the fun of having something rare associated with that memory)

i especially hate the meloetta one because they JUST put one in the dlc that would've been perfect to shiny hunt and it's one of my favorite pokemon. manaphy i don't care because it was already huntable legitimately and enamorus is ugly and lame but should still be huntable lol

meloetta feels specifically like a targeted slap in the face to shiny hunters, like they were specifically telling us "yeah it's not that we don't want you to have the shiny, we just don't like the way you enjoy our game and will stop you from doing so at no benefit to anyone else"

Very minor shiny hunter here, but I can definitely say I hate that they can't be nicknamed, considering the starters you get for linking games to Home and the Original form Magearna CAN be nicknamed. I just don't like that being inconsistent across all Home distributions.

I like them, they make a good incentive for players of all kinds to complete these games. This is preferable to a standard event or Pokemon GO, though these kinds of Pokemon being shiny locked in the first place is part of why I play the recent games less. Let us do both.

I kinda wish there were little in game events for them, just so it makes the moment a little more memorable. I like to hunt for something that can have a chance to be shiny rather than to be given to me instantly

I think it's a good first step ! I'm still a bit bummed at the possibility they may never be actually shiny huntable, but breaking the "never has ever been shiny legally" seal on them might lead us to a welcome surprise down the road, and they're still fun to hoard as dex rewards in the mean time :)

Personally, I'm not a fan. While I do think that offering a reward for filling out the dex is a good thing, I think that needing to originate in a certain game is antithetical to the purpose of Pokemon Home.

I pay for Home so I can store Pokemon from previous games, and often transfer them in to fill out the dex instead of needing to hunt down Pokemon I've caught 100 times already. The way that they've gone about doing these distributions quite literally punishes you for using the service as intended.

The second and more commonly touched upon issue is that many of these Pokemon that are/will be obtainable this way will have been shiny locked since their introduction, and these distributions are the only way they can be obtained as shiny.

This instantly kills my interest in these distributions. I don't want to be handed a shiny for doing what is realistically a series of fetch quests, I want to hunt it myself and feel the satisfaction of sticking to a goal and succeeding in a game of random chance. That's how I feel, at least.

personally i think that they're fine, great even, because we have an opportunity to obtain not typically obtainable pokemon through just a bit of work. and the availability is awesome if you have the right games. and people who just don't like it don't have to participate

i'm not a hardcore shiny hunter, but i applaud those who took the time and effort to obtain manaphy through the ranger egg or that one convoluted method i can't name off the top of my head
