I’ve been here on science twitter v2.0 all week and I’m loving it, but we need more voices speaking up about the ongoing genocide and ecocide, and for a #freepalestine

This was the topic of my talk at #entsoc24, which was an attempt to channel the spirit of my hero @chanda.bsky.social, to compel entomologists, who I KNOW already care (about the loss of life, the climate, biodiversity, etc), to engage more politically and vocally
It’s convenient to think we can shelter within our labs and focus on our work, but if we can be silent in the face of a genocide, why should anyone care what we have to say about our research and all the 🦋🐜🐛 organisms we love to study?
And by speaking up, we can offer increasing support for other collleagues who are organizing and speaking out and for our students who are both scared and looking to us for moral and ethical leadership; the future of academic free speech and scientific research and our disciplines is at stake.
Omg thank you!! Your post from last Oct, grounding a call for a Free Palestine as a duty of your disciplinary field was such a powerful perspective! This isn’t hardly as impactful, but we published it in a column we’re writing for a local RI arts/culture paper:
