If you know a non voter, for the love of Dog, please talk to them about the importance of paying attention and voting. There’s no democracy without the participation of the people. It’s your job. It’s our job.
To be fair a large portion of that group has a tough time voting because the system is stacked against them. Voter prevention is a huge game that is played in politics. Rank choice voting would increase voter turn out tremendously. The electoral college is one giant voter suppression.
And a lot of people just sit on their asses, too. For example, voting in cook county, where I live, was way down. And nobody makes it hard for you to vote here.
Yeah Illinois did get a bit too close for comfort this year. I agree especially when it comes to purple to mildly blue/red states. Unfortunately some states are gerrymandered to the point of almost no hope for one party. I don't think it's an excuse to not vote. It sucks a handful of states decide.
My nephew (22 yo) didn’t vote! You betcha he got an earful & more from me! 🤬🤬Your college assistance - gone! Your desire to get a federal job - gone! Your medical benefits - gone! Your SNAP benefits - gone! Told him that he & so many others in his age group could’ve made the difference!
Sadly & furiously - the latter! When I was in high school (yeah it’s one of those stories our parents would start out saying) we learned about government, international global views, our civic responsibility, & more. (Went to DoD schools overseas.)
He’s going to destroy the whole world, all based on the wants of 31.78% of stupid, short sighted, selfish American voters. Seventy-eight million people held the fate of billions in their hands and as the Knight in Indiana Jones said; they chose fucking poorly.
Frustrating to see so many not voting. I’m a permanent resident living in the US I work and pay taxes but still don’t have the right to vote yet. Wish I could have…
You aren't counting the votes in the "battleground states" that were stolen by the little south african nazi prick.. no way did the fat fuck win that election!
however, if you ask americans if they approve of trump at this point, you do get like 46% approval - lots of americans support him, even if not a majority
kinda wonder what percentage got purged in various ways too and how many didn't get to vote because of bomb threats and polling locations moved or closed completely
Truly a fair system would acknowledge that the majority disliked (no they didn’t shove their head up their asses and ignore everything, how could you in these times) both candidates
An election re-do should have taken place. There is no reason other than tradition to keep it all every 4 years
Why did those lazy people not vote? I wrote 100 post cards to get people to vote days after getting a wisdom tooth pulled ( it really hurt!) and they sat out the election??
And a major f’up by those that sat on their asses.
You make a decision to vote or not to. Either way, it yields a result. For all those who didn’t vote because this one issue or whatever, you ficked around and found out.
I’d be curious as to why people don’t vote.
1) they don’t want to be called to jury duty. This is my sisters excuse.
2) they have fallen for the lie that their vote doesn’t matter.
3) they think all candidates are terrible and not worth voting for. I understand this thinking.
For a long time I didn't follow politics because I didn't feel I needed to. I'd say I fell into the second category, living in a historically Red State.
In those days I didn't take into account the non-presidential races or ballot measures.
On the other hand, since in my youth I never bothered to educate myself sufficiently to make an informed decision, I'm not sure I disagree with the decision to abstain.
I get it. Following politics is hard and time consuming. Especially today when both sides are lying and just want power instead of serving the people. But we the people are the ones holding the power in our vote. Failing to be involved simply is a surrender of power.
I’ve said the same thing to my sister. When she complains about the state of everything, I ask if he she voted. When she says no, I tell her “no vote means no complaining”. She doesn’t complain to me anymore.
As a registered republican, I tend to vote for who I think will abide by the constitution best. In 2016, that wasn’t Hillary or Trump. In 2020, it wasn’t Biden or Trump. In 2024, I knew Trump would violate the constitution so I voted for Harris.

Time perhaps to confront the grim reality of that question.
