I can think of a few others. Good surfing at Carlsbad and La Jolla/Blacks, great food in Little Italy. Fantastic avocadoes. Quick trip up Hwy 1 to get to a lot of fun stuff.
But the cost of living there was prohibitive for a kid working in construction.
Yeah, as a resident of the last 30 years, don't even put Texas on the list. I'm clawing to get out of here.
Northern New Mexico is affordable (mostly) and gorgeous. Denver is alright, although some of the people there are CA level insufferable. Several family members have moved to OR and love it.

And good Hakata style ramen can be found in a lot of places these days. We even have it in Dallas.

It's definitely not the city for me, or most, who want affordable living who aren't desperately in love with those things.
Only real benefit is the climate is much more benign than the rest of SoCal!
