I'll say one thing: Yeah, it sucks that they voted for Trump, but the fact that there's so much widespread buyer's remorse now is a *good* thing. Americans have the best shot they've ever had at reaching across the aisle and actually uniting, regardless of political standing.

But the thing is that the voters who voted for him do bear some responsibility. They did not just "get" duped. They ignored a lot of evidence/info. I agree (w yr later post) that more tribalism isn't helpful. But accountability isn't tribalism. True accountabilty helps build bridges & connections.

At no point did I say accountability isn't important. What I'm trying to say is that a regular person doesn't just become "anti-woke" for no reason, and being well-informed in a country that appears to be trying to erode education and critical thought at every step is hardly a given.

In other words, what makes someone think that trans/queer/liberal people are the enemy? I think it's important that we address the problem at the source and do what we can to deprogram that mindset in those in which it *can* be deprogrammed. You can fight against bigotry and still be compassionate.

I think most of us tried so hard for so long not to lean into tribalism that now that we’re here, it’s the only solace remaining. Because it’s that or capitulation. I’m not convinced that these people don’t want this because it’s only been a week. We need to give it time to really sink in for them.
