one of the worst things about getting old is remembering something shitty you did when you were a kid and the person you want to apologize to has been dead for decades

One of the good things w/ the big social media rush of 2009, when everybody joined Facebook, was the ability to find & apologize to Jennifer Dacy for being such a cruel ASSHOLE to her in 7th grade for no reason.
She was so gracious & we're friends now & have "watched" each others' kids grow up.
I appreciate that you even thought about it years later, and thought about apologizing. No one has ever apologized to me for the physical and emotional abuse that nearly drove me to suicide when I was 16. I have never gone to a school reunion, because why would I ever want to see my abusers again?
i (maybe oddly?) find it comforting. oversimplifying --> if what i needed to apologize for was bothering THEM, at least it's not bothering them anymore. kind of a lazy, inactive form of closure, on my part.
Flip side, remembering something shitty someone did to you when you were a kid, looking them up online, and finding out they died in a horrible accident in the 90's.

I'm still missing those teeth but he's dead now.
