Being charitable, I think the joke was less implying that people who make those complaints are just haters and more going for the "look, we know how to make fun of ourselves". But that still falls on the problem of claiming self-awareness while not actually addressing the problems.
I really wish we could do better than this. Better than him. I don't doubt his passion for games and I think this is all very genuine, but he is such a douche bag and the marketing moves are really scummy.
Maybe if the guy ever had an actual job besides *this* since he was nepo babied into the entertainment industry as a teenager he would come off as a little more genuine.

Yesterday during the indie showcase associated with this event, the chat room was screaming about grand theft auto and demanding the trailer as if that was going to be coming up. We deserve this.
Oh I cannot imagine trying to watch that show without *someone* commenting/snarking on it. It'd be like watching the Star Wars Holiday Special without the Rifftrax commentary - just weirdly awkward.
