Question for fountain pen friends - do you take your most expensive pens out and about with you, to maximise their use and enjoyment? Or keep them safe and sound to be used at your desk only?

Mine go everywhere with me regardless of price. Expensive ones and the ones I care about are in leather pen sleeves. I should probably upgrade to a pen roll or something similar to accommodate them all…
This is prob not helpful, but my most expensive pen so far is a Nahvalur Key West. It stays home bc I don’t love writing with it, but I LOVE my Preppys and cart four of them to work everyday. It’s not that it’s precious, I just… don’t like it 🫣 It needs the right ink/nib combo
Oh that makes total sense, I have a pen I love that I wouldnt take out because it doesnt have a clip, I have two like that and one is absolutely made to be taken out and about!
I take some of them with me when I go out every day - models like a Platinum 3776 or a Sailor Pro Gear. I have a couple of different pen sleeve or pen-pouches that work just fine for keeping them safe. They're tools and I want to use them at work or when I'm at the cafe.
Do you have a bag you carry when you go out? IIRC, you have a big pen case, but maybe something like this would be better for trips out of the house. It holds a surprising amount—I’ve stuffed it with four pens, a ruler, four highlighters and a mechanical pencil and eraser. Could’ve fit more prob
Yeah I definitely understand that. I lost a Waterman on the bus years ago and I'm still mad about it.
But I've also come to terms with the thought that I'm just as likely to damage or misplace one at home as I am on the road.
I keep mine home. I think I could take one of mine to work as I'm back to doing what I'm doing at work, but... I'd need one of those awesome pens you click to make the nib come out. We're not allowed pens with caps at work.
I have a Platinum Curidas, its not the most comfortable to write with, the Pilot Vanishing Point may be better but they are too expensive to experiment with!
We work with machinery, and the caps tend to jam the machinery.
I saw a pilot vanishing point and I was going to purchase it, but I lack funds at the time and then was moved elsewhere due to the other area being short staffed. Now that I'm back to my area, I'm considering on getting one + notebook.
They have a great reputation! I have a Platinum Curidas, its not very comfortable to write with and I find it needs to be used daily or it'll hard start a little.
Indeed. The owner of the company got really mad one day because someone's pen's cap jammed one of the conveyors. I don't know if that's true, but it's believable.
Oh i also never keep them in the external pockets of my bag. Nor any other valuables. Those are granola bar and hygiene pockets. If I forget to zip it or I get pickpocketed, I won't be out more than a toothbrush and some tea.

But maybe if I have those super-expensive ones... maybe I'll keep them at home. Maybe. 🤭

Oh, I like it! It's much more affordable too!
Loose in a pocket or clipped to something is reserved for larger pens that I'll notice right away if they aren't there. Pocket pens stress me out.
