Might make sense for something like a "space internet" between multiple orbital platforms / space stations that communicate by laser. Here the atmosphere / weather might limit data rates.
Was just about the next even bigger idea for 'collecting' more money than Wirecard. Would not be surprised if they are stuffed with money and then their 'disappear'...
I understand it's about data storage, not computing. You could stuff a satellite with several PB SSD storage easily, you just need to manage disk usage carefully (1 TB of SSD storage being read / written to needs about 1 W power, which is mostly disspayed as heat).
Ahh ok, storage, not compute. I wonder their use case. Total storage capacity will be limited by bandwidth ie how long it takes to populate & retrieve.
