Here's my Christmas gift to you - yet another post on Swedish and Finnish rifles. Calibre wars, interim buys, scheming politicians, and straight-talking Home Guardsmen. What more could you ask for? 😎

Four for the immediate future, but this is a G3/FNC-replacement program so plan is to for all intents and purposes go to just the Sako (haven't seen any info on the long-term plan for the M4A1).
Both G3 and M4A1 will most likely go into longtime storage when enough ak 24/25 have been delivered. Maybe even the FNC if enough good ones can be identified.
TBH I don't see it, this is largely a repeat of the Swedish discussion. 7.62 NATO is able to defeat protection and reach out to longer ranges in a way 5.56 NATO won't, but the trade offs are quite steep, and designated marksmen (with 7.62 NATO) and machine guns provide medium-range firepower.
There might be some specialised cases where certain units will prioritise having medium-range firepower and heavier hitting individual rounds over the amount of ammunition carried (foot patrols in the High North by well-trained youths?), but that is stretching it.

My opinion? To be future compatible with 6,8*51 isn't bad and 7,62*51 is also a current Natostandard.
There is more to military rifles than weight of ammunition. Also, in the civilian competitions it's enough to hit the target.
