I think if you asked our once and future President what the role of the President of the United States is, the answer you'd get wouldn't pass an 8th grade civics test.

It's easy to just say, "The person wearing the crown, sitting on the throne in the palace is in charge, okay? Moving on..." Kid get their sense of authority from this, and their surroundings. Principals, teachers, parents - someone is in charge.
What's incredible to me is the people who seem to believe this is the case.
