If the NATO alliance weakens, meaning the US military is no longer a part of it, the European countries have to assume the US is either going to be neutral OR on the other side of any conflict. This is so fucking stupid for the US to lose any future leverage we once had in global diplomacy.
Once this shitshow is over, we will be second seat to shaping any future world events that may or may not impact us. We are no longer the leader and lost that for who knows how many years to come. You can’t predict the impact of this.
When we get through this period of turmoil (no more Trump) we will want to rejoin NATO. By then our allies will have bolstered their militaries, reduced their dependence on the US in every way that matters. Maybe that is ultimately good for the world. Just saying the balance will shift.
We are not "preparing for WWIII". There is a war in Europe already, and we intend to win it.

A world witnessing Russia getting the deal of a lifetime simply because it has nukes should inspire every nation that can afford it to go nuclear as well. This is why you never capitulate to threats. The adverse impacts can be catastrophic and a good reason to vote in adults, not petulant children.
