Sixty years ago today, John Lewis and Hosea Williams led marchers across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in a peaceful stand against the violence and voter suppression that prevented Black Americans from fully exercising their rights to vote.

"Good Trouble" And we need to continue that wonderful tradition. Impeach Trump, and his administration. Show up at congress and chant Impeach. Make good trouble.

Gives me chills just looking at those hero’s right there. They made us a better place! Doesn’t mean we haven’t faltered but it is civil protest and civil disobedience that is required now in this moment in history because we need to strive to do better!
I remember this, i was horrified at the outcome, and I was ready to fight the Good Fight. I was already primed for it by watching Ruby Bridges, bus boycotts, the Woolworths lunchcounter, burning churches with babies in them, men lynched for breathing, etc.
Have you ever been to the bridge. I went during trump 1. There’s a park on the side away from the town. Funding was taken away for the maintenance of that park. A man took it on his own to mow clean and greet visitors. He told of Bloody Sunday. Just walking there - an energy. It needs to be felt.
The man told of the history of the area. Slave ships and lynchings. He kept saying the Market. Took a minute before I realized “slave market”. The energy is so powerful- I had a hard time with my grief.
And six weeks ago, Joe Biden's failure as a president made it possible for Donald Trump and his gang of racist thugs to get control of the country and begin tearing down every that Lewis and Williams fought for....
Thanks Joe!
He was - and will forever remain - one of my heroes. While I did not shake his hand, I had the great privilege of hearing him speak at Bennett College. I snapped this photo from my seat that afternoon.
This is a sigh, there are tons of peaceful marches going on all around the country, my wife and I did one in Tucson this week. Find one do one. Stay peaceful just larger numbers, everyday, hit a Tesla dealership every once in awhile 🤫
I'm living in the hope that what we're seeing is the death throes of fascism/authoritarianism. It's what gets me through the long, dark tea-time of the soul.
10 years ago me and a friend of mine drove to Selma for the 50 yr anniversary. We got to see President Obama and walked across the John Lewis Freedom Bridge (we can rename stuff too!) 💙
I was 8. Living in the deep south watched all of this stuff on TV. My family is from Memphis. It horrified me as a little girl. That’s why I love Hawaii so much. White people here are detested as the theives and assholes they are…I have lived here since I was 13. I am 68. I am a lucky gurl!🌞🏝️🌸🎉❤️
In case anybody thinks this is ancient history, it was within the lifetimes of my parents and even of my partner who was a toddler. This is living memory.
Worked with a lady, who said she marched that day, age 14.
Asked if she had experienced any violence.
She began to slowly raise her skirt, showing me a long keloid scar on her thigh.
She said a white police officer shoved her through a plate glass window as she marched.
Nearly lost the leg.
My late grandparents marched with Congressman John Lewis. My God the stories they told. I miss my Granny and Big Pops and Mr. Lewis. May they all continue to Rest In Eternal Peace 🙏🙏🙏
I’ve ridden (as a child) and driven over that bridge probably 200 times in my life. I was 7 months old when this happened, didn’t understand the importance of that bridge as a kid, but the older I got, the more I looked at life in Alabama through the eyes of others, the more actual history I read
The more those trips across that bridge made me reflect on what happened that day& the attitudes & the racism that led up to it (& from it)& the fact that people I knew, grew up around & ppl in my own family supported those things in that time. I want my daughter to remember me with pride, not shame
Shaking off the childhood indoctrination of racism takes a conscious effort. I never wanted my 16 to have 2 start, not even from scratch on that, but from behind the line of decency as I did. Her circle of friends shows she didn’t, & I’m proud of her. I think I’ve done ok… not perfect, but better.
Exactly!! I have bern posting this alot!👇
Exactly!!! Take it to the streets! Our leaders need to be leading us in unrelenting MASSIVE Marches!!
Generations fought and died to save our freedoms! It is OUR We the People’s Democracy if we can keep it!
Are we ready!!! 💙🦋
John Lewis is a true hero. He would be yelling at democrats. 10 voted for censure. John Lewis did not attend the swearing in of Donald Trump. He did not care what it looked like. He had principles and integrity.
My history teacher lived through that. Every year, she’d wear a long prairie skirt to school, so she could lift it up to just below her knees and show her class the scars on her legs.
You don’t forget that lesson ever!
I’m sure Trump and his fellow KKK/Nazis are trying to erase this history as it’s way too “woke” for their pea brains. They can NEVER erase the legacy of these brave pioneers for human rights. I’d walk that bridge with them if you could turn back time!
It's hard not to think that it won't take violence by a MAGA mob (agumented by pardoned J6 thugs) attacking a march like this to finally blow things up.

To show Trump how dissatisfied we’re with his policies, what he is doing to the USA and Ukraine!
He’s decimated our gov and denied arms, stopped intelligence and commercial satellites to Ukraine.
ALL for Putin and the so called King! #repost
