I know a few people at the office use white noise on a decent pair of noise cancelling headphones for focus. I have a playlist of indie game soundtracks I like to listen to which are really mellow and atmospheric. Kingdom: Two Crowns/New Lands by @amosroddy.bsky.social is a favourite. - ThreadSky

My issue there is I'm also an audiophile, and active noise canceling sounds terrible lol. Sometimes I just use earplugs but it's not enough

Sometimes I get lost in the music and just thinking up ideas for game features. I tell myself it’s a productive ‘break’ from work.

Good ANC doesn’t bother me but that won’t drown out everything. I get easily distracted by unpredictable bg noise, anything which drowns that out is essential for focus

Other good things are based around forming habits of work, and fixing time periods of uninterrupted work time. but that gets into a whole rabbit hole of psychology and productivity theories and studies.

This is just a reminder for me how much I value WFH now. I used to do this. I also really miss the physical social interaction from working in office but the loss of focus on my work every day was MASSIVE. And ultimately, I value being able to do my creative work effectively the most.

Totally agree, WFH has its own troubles for me with a toddler running around but I would much sooner drop what I am doing to play with her for a few minutes than be interrupted by a colleague for small talk.

Yeah me too. I end up pausing the music to focus and then forgetting to unpause for hours
