Hell, to not even mention shit like tariff's that might happen that would affect it's cost immesely if they tried to do modern tech with the Switch 2. Frankly I'm fine with the Switch 2's specs cause sure it's using last gen hardware, but at the same time it still looks like new gen hardware.

A lot of console rpg games have the Quality/Performance option now and I sometimes wonder if the original Switch played a role in that. Like, if you have a portable console it's nice having the option to run your game on a low output mode to save precious battery.

$400 is like the sweet spot. The 9th gen consoles are $500 so the Switch 2 being $400 would make it cheaper while also being more expensive than the Switch with its better power and tech

That's an oversimplification. Meta hardware is severely subsidized with the idea of snatching all of the VR community and locking people into their Meta ecosystem. It's been working, but it's a slow game and competitors are starting to get costs and form factor down a bit more every year.

Apple's strategy to get consumers is to pretend they made features before anyone else and that their products are better than anyone else's even when both statements are false. They lock people into their ecosystem, but that isn't what gets people into said ecosystem in the first place.

100% chance they’ll spend $900 on a plastic box if inflation worsens when the disc ver. PS6 comes out.

Nintendo keeping their prices down is key to their success. We don’t need “better graphics”. Just decent or on par performance.

Nintendo's Switch 2 could be any price Nintendo wants it to be regardless of the cost to make the hardware. Thaey can sell at a loss to get players into their ecosystem to buy games which they take a cut of the sales income from. Nintendo is also a game dev themselves, so they'd directly benefit.

They'll be using modern tech in the next Switch, it's just going to be a Tegra chip with low clocks for lower energy consumption, not a higher end chip that requires a higher energy consumption.

That said, performance is going to end up being a lot better then what console only gamers are expecting. It's going to fall in line with what we're seeing already from portable gaming PC's like ROG Ally and Steam Deck when undocked, and when docked it'll be pretty close to Xbox Series S.
