As a german my take is: "What value does a smile have if it isnt genuine? If everyone fakes their smile talking to you, that just kind of becomes your new neutral. You dont see it as a sign of joy, approval, happiness or positivity. And worse, not smiling becomes a "rude" thing."
Nothing infuriates me more when on the phone with a customer support agent than when they say BS like "I'm so sorry to hear that" or "I'd love to help you with that." No, you don't. You're being forced to say that by your boss. Stop saying how much you want to help me and just help me.
See this is true because I ask this to most people I dealt with in customer service jobs. Can confirm, with my whole heart, I do not care. A lot of them, I'd rather throw Lego bricks all over their home.
8. You cannot "separate the art from the artist" anymore that you can separate the farts from my ass when I'm farting in your mouth for being such a fucking nerd

Admittedly only been to Berlin, Köln and Freiburg...
But I've never had any complaints as to not nice people in shops, whereas here....... 🤣🤣🤣
When they showed The Joker in German theaters, I'm sure someone said "I don't get it, this seems to be a normal American man."
Fake friendliness makes me more uncomfortable than a slight unfriendliness.
That said real friendliness makes my brain short circuit and I do have Autism so what the fuck do I know.
(My wife was frightened by Canadian customer service when she first visited.)
(Exceptions for Everything Everywhere in my case, but still.)
