Butterflies need iron which they get from blood of newly deceased animals.
They would suck blood from the living, but their proboscis isn’t sharp enough
This friendly female moth was larger than my hand, from my finger tip to base of hand, 6-1/2 inches.
She laid her eggs on my porch plant and I returned her to a Live Oak branch.
Amazing experience!
