I'm so tired of people acting like $20/hour is a lot of money in 2025. That gives you $1066 for rent each month by the 1/3 rule, which probably isn't even enough when groceries cost so much. On a 40 hour week if you are making $20 an hour your monthly income is $3440 BUT that $3440 is pre tax. If you live in British Columbia that $3440 becomes $2578, so the 1/3 rule means $859 for rent. The average cost of a 1 bedroom in Vancouver is $2561 a month so that means 3 people.

I don't know how so many people can be disconnected from the reality of how much things cost at this present time. I don't think a lot of the people arguing about certain people making too much are rich enough to be so out of touch.

There are bad/lazy NPS workers just like in literally any job, but genuinely, what do you think these people do all day that accounts for nothing? My brother not only does his tour guide stuff, he's also posting to his park's social media, which he isn't paid for. And doing whatever else they need.

The only NPS workers I have ever come across not doing much of anything were search and rescue. It's almost like they need to be on hand when an emergency comes up, but there also aren't emergencies 24/7. Idk what you would have them do about that.

Maybe people go to parks and see workers standing around and just don't understand what they're doing. Sometimes they do have ridiculous jobs that shouldn't really have to be done but are incredibly necessary because the public are entitled and brainless.

That’s one thing the numbers don’t ever seem to account for, is if the minimum wage matches the minimum rental prices in the area. They never do.

It makes no sense! The minimum wage was established to be the least someone can live on. There needs to be a federal law that every municipality has to formulate their minimum wage on average rent annually. It's the only way to make minimum wage liveable.
