Ah - you’ve trumped me there! Awesome. I got Beattie’s autograph a few times as a lad, but never actually chatted with him. I did see him outside the ground once when I went to see England v Croatia at Portman Road and he said hello as though I was an old mate!

There is a great bit from the second half when Omari passes to him on halfway. Almost in slo motion he brushes off a player and starts towards their goal. He then just picks up speed and you can see Cucurella, who is not slow, realising he is not going to catch him. Ends up firing a heck of a shot

Brilliant writing, and astute analysis.

That performance by Delap was the best individual centre-forward display I have seen at Portman Road since Dalian Atkinson's hat-trick against Middlesbrough in 1988.
