I love that album. It's unfortunate that people only see him as Ziggy Stardust or maybe his song Space Oddity and never followed him through the years. He did some crap also. He knew it, "My nadir was 'Never Let Me Down'. It was such an awful album.”
Mike Garson's piano playing on this record was transcendent. Rippling waves of chaos and order. Clouds of ambiance split by brutal, angular madness. 30 years on, it still feels fresh and unexpected.
He was with Bowie longer than any other musician. I play keyboards and always wanted to be like him but he has a very special talent I will never have, LOL.
I love love love him. Aladdin Sane was my first taste. Best version of Space Oddity ever on Bowie Midnight Special.
January 8 - Bowie's birthday, and release date of his final album. Also Elvis's birthday (had huge influence on Lazarus)
January 9 - Scott Walker's birthday (arguably THE biggest influence on Bowie)
January 10 - Bowie passes.
Nah- that’s more of a “Zoot Suit” w/ huge legs & high waist that Bowie liked to wear. I worked in Michael Mann’s office during the time of Miami Vice & Crime Story. They loved the white suits & pastels, didn’t they. An entire fashion craze was created.
