Don't let any bitter account tell you otherwise, Avowed is fun, the combat is great (I can finally say "I'm out of mana, but not out of options, and go shoot someone"), and it has really beautiful environments.
It's fun! I feel like WRPGs tend to get harshly critiqued when there are any type of prerelease expectations, but celebrated more intensely when those without a lot of expectations end up being good. You can't expect Elder Scrolls radiant systems or Baldur's Gate 3 narrative flexibility in every RPG
Exactly! Many times the scope is not even the same nor is it intended. Does it make them really worse or bad? No, just different proposals and ideas. Variety is the spice of life. The only thing that is achieved is to miss very good games along the way due to unrealistic expectations.
