The line to use that elevator this weekend was comically/sadly long. Mostly families with strollers. I imagine most people with disabilities don't even try to enjoy this space.

It wouldn't surprise me if the city winds up adding another elevator someday at high cost, much like Sound Transit is building a second elevator at SeaTac/Airport Station.
Honestly, I hate to say that fear makes sense. Even able-bodied, it feels weird how few hand rails there are on these giant steps. They look cool, but when you're going down so many steps with that many people around, I kinda want to hold onto something just in case someone bumps me the wrong way.
Exactly. And I'm incredibly slow going down steps, using a handrail, so I'd be effectively hogging it all to myself. I know it probably ruins whatever look they were going for, but they absolutely need to put some center rails on that thing
They do because if they don't ... my god between that and the ankle guillotine fencing on the bike path there are going to be so many lawsuits. All this planning and no thought put into basic safety and accessibility.
