I love my public library. They whiz books all around the state and let me pick them up at the cute little branch walking distance from my place. They accept my purchase requests. They send me amazing unexpected recs. The thematic shelving is always interesting. And the librarians are hilarious. <3 - ThreadSky

My county does that. And one library is currently being remodeled, so they sent a list of other ones in close proximity to go to instead as well as emailed everyone of alternative places to pick up reserved books if it works for them

Luckily most local public libraries are funded by state and local funds. They may receive federal grants but their main funding is local.

My favourite business thought leader Professor Eddie Obeng once said “Events evaporate but patterns persist” . I think the internet and AI is going to drive a return to libraries particularly if people keep chopping subsea cables . Ours has the cheapest coffee in town also ☕️👍

I love my local library system! Besides all the books I borrow I also utilize their free passes to museums, the zoo, botanical gardens, etc.

Right now there's a treasure hunt to visit all libraries in the Milwaukee Co system.

So mine has a form you can fill out asking for recs. You can tell them what you like and what you dislike. Then books appear! Your library might have this or you could just ask at the desk. They've never steered me wrong.
