maybe it's how guentzel played out, maybe it's how his recent interviews went but i can't help shake the feeling that it'll be an uphill battle to re-sign rantanen. anyone else?

I’m withholding judgment until he actually gets to Raleigh and plays games. Man hasn’t even seen what it’s like there yet. Plus, it’s just so recent. The grieving process for him I’m sure is still ongoing
This is his last chance to get a mega mega contract. A lot of these guys look forward to this time as their chance to be wined and dined by every team in the league and truly “test free agency”.
And if it gets to that stage, then the Canes will have lost their leg up (ability to offer an 8th year).
Right. And that’s why you figure it out now. You can get a lot more for his rights if you don’t wait until the day before FA. And you can plan accordingly.
this is kinda what i'm feeling too. hopefully he gets here and falls in love and stays but a guy like rants is going to have his pick of the litter in FA and that might be too tempting to pass up
Elliott’s Friedman mentioned seeing the Guentzel experience as a learning moment where they waited too long to meet his ask. So let’s see if it’s different
It’s not that I’m not worried. But I’m sure that they’re going to do everything they can. Frustrating as Guentzel was, it’s not like we didn’t offer him what he signed for. So I think they’ll offer Rantanen what he’s worth. What I would do differently is not waiting until the offseason. Offer it now
I'm holding out to see how he fits. For some reason, I feel Hall as becoming the standout in this trade, for this season. Just what my gut is saying on who will gel faster. But I hope it's both of them & we can get deals done to keep both.
i kinda feel the same way about hall. the way he plays just seems to fit right in. canes have a knack for finding vet guys and getting the most out of them. just watched hall's interview on what chaos and he seems like a guy that's excited to be here and ultimately would like to settle down
Yeah, obv it's early but it seems he very much didn't want to leave Colorado. I'm hoping being here with Aho softens the blow and in time he's at peace with it all.
This. He seems stunned so he may figure since he's not where he wanted/thought, he has freedom to entertain pretty much anywhere who's willing to pay this summer. But *shrug* I also would've placed bets on Canes, being the D-minded team they are, prioritizing Skjei last yr. so what do I know. lol
i agree, the hope is as time goes on he enjoys it here and wants to stick around and not that as the trade wounds close he doesn't open his eyes to the idea that he can go anywhere he wants to

It has very little to do with the city or the team situation. It’s more to do with the Guentzel dynamic playing out similarly.

Feel free to start another thread if you want.
