It depends on the cable and TV of course, but many games took advantage of how certain video outputs like Composite or S-Video blurred lines together. In games like Sonic or NiGHTS, Sonic Team used this to create the illusion of transparency and shading with dithered patterns and vertical lines.

Maybe if you’re only going for a composite look, but maybe that’s not your preference. Also still can’t make up for the enhanced depth of contrast and streaking light trailing inherent to the technology. A good filter can get close though. You do you
