Really? All the firings, all the threats, all the retaliations and you think the work is being done by professionals?
You don’t think that the fact that they’re removing artifacts on the most successful act of civil revolution in our history has something to do with this?
The email comes from a highly qualified registrar, per google search. The orders to return absolutely come from the worst actors.
Balancing duty to ensure preservation of objects to avoid loosing vital history & duty to ensure public access for education is tough, but still a horrific development
The email refers to the objects as loans, not permanently accessioned donations; otherwise, you’d be right about the obligation to seek a suitable museum to house a deaccession.
I’m slightly more forgiving if items will be safer back in the lenders’ hands, but this is a sickening slippery slope.
I just don’t know that I trust them. We are experiencing a Maoist-style cultural purge and I’m worried we get on the other side of it one day and discover all these things were indeed destroyed.
During Trump’s first reign of terror, I overheard geologists talking about how the administration was gutting university libraries and collections. They said graduate students were having to dumpster dive if they wanted anything saved.
absolutely infuriating & that attorney is an obtuse she devil. The lunch counter in particular- peaceful resistance! demands major mass protest & media coverage. This happened in America! imagine pulling these stunts at Holocaust museum.
The email in the story looks like it came from a staff member. Who is telling the staff to do this? What about the authority of the Director or the Board of Regents?
My point is we have to get the actual mechanics of how this is happening out into the open so we can tell if something inappropriate is happening, or if it’s following the rules (even if we don’t like the outcome).
WHERE'S Oprah? Is she going to sit by silently while Trump ransacks the National Museum of African American History and Culture & tries to ERASE American history?
Trump & his Nazis have NO authority over the #NMAAHC or any Smithsonian museum.
What's Lonnie Bunch doing to get Congress to stop Trump?
The way to fight back against this is to popularize Black History in the mainstream consciousness (a la Sinners), which has been lacking anyways due to the stilted framing of it as what were "supposed to" learn rather than what we can enjoy learning as hobbyists.
The attacks on contributions made by non-whites, especially African Americans while using 'DEI' as a cover, sends a loud statement that racism is a fundamental part of this regime's mission. When you replace a 4 star black general with a drunken white Fox host, it's clear just as these 'purges' are.

"Why were they mad? They got their own bathrooms, so what, not that big of a deal!"
...they weren't allowed to have jobs in some industries, they were singled out and lynched, and other crimes I don't want to list.
