1.5 vs 3 million figure aside. dragon age the veilguard debuted on top ten US selling games. if hitting the top ten is considered underperforming then the cost of development is unsustainable for future AAA gaming.

Publishers have lost their minds and have made so MANY bad decisions trying to cash in on one "magic bullet" after the other. Sony just cancelled TEN "live services" MMOs. TEN. Think about that. Now AI is the fad. For the next 5-10 years AI will make everything better until it doesn't.
Good point. I think the industry has been trending that way for a while (see the winnowing out of the middle developer) but we’re seeing a lot of “if it’s not Fortnite level success it’s a failure”
I’m just blown away that Owlcat is celebrating Rogue Trader a game that dropped in December 2023 for hitting 1M, yes they aren’t AAA published by EA etc etc.
But DATV is being dissected for not doing 3M in such less time, idk maybe market & give it more resources then?

It took DA2 a year to reach 2M and DAO in a year did a bit more than 3M.
Those are some quite unreasonable expectations.
