The Emancipation Proclamation was an executive order. At the time, it was largely considered unconstitutional. It was enforced by the military. It was also morally correct and unqualifiedly the right thing to do and in fact should have gone much farther than it did.

I want a president who will sign an executive order issuing reparations. Who will sign an executive order protecting trans people and requiring we be fully recognized. Who will sign an executive order barring funding to Israel.
The use of power for good things is good.
But the risk is that US just ends up with EO tennis oscillating from one administration to another, with all the wasteful destruction that entails.
There's a case to be made that the legislative branch once constrained destabilising extreme oscillation.
