AR-15s are very, very effective within enclosed spaces such as a home. There is a reason the US military kicks down doors with them, compared to say a handgun. Also, compared to handgun rounds such as .45 ACP, .223 out of an AR-15 penetrate drywall less due to it destabilizing.
