2014 was a bit awkward for Ukraine, as they banned two of the three largest parties in the legislature. However, they more than made up for it afterwards, with a new party collecting those displaced.
Maidan Revolution (and unquestioned Russian interference efforts) was the impetus for that, no? I also think it's significant that even the opposition party leaders have publicly said the martial law decree/pause on elections is the right move now.
The 2014 takeover used the cover of Maidan, but they rejected what Maidan was fighting for. The parties they banned were involved in the Maidan protests. Hence why I call 2014 a mess.
And there is nothing wrong with the pause on elections during an invasion.
