Equity: 44% of public transit riders in the Bay Area have household incomes below $50k. That compares to 15% of the total population. Transit is far more affordable then car ownership, and that's vital for many in the Bay Area.

To editorialize a bit more, I'd note that these four impacts are all tightly tied together. Public transit is transformational in terms of the urban solution space, and massive cuts to public transit will make it much harder to solve the Bay Area's wider problems.

Utterly insane that these types of cuts are even being considered! From a climate, traffic, economic, public/environmental health, equity, housing, etc etc POV, every constituent and their priorities are unfathomable harmed from these cuts

Transit - particularly rail - has fixed costs. It's efficient if you make good use of the infrastructure, but the fixed costs don't reduce with reduced usage, leading to steep cuts. Thus, BART would need to cut 85% of service to save 30% of it's operational budget.

Muni faces step cuts as well:

* 20 lines cut
* Reduced service (ie, frequency, hours) on another 28 lines
* 9pm OWL service
* No historic street cars or cable car service

Caltrain would have to undo the new, more frequent schedule and likely make further cuts. AC Transit would dip to 70% service.
