I opened a revocable trust to deal with this even when I had a partner. There are drawbacks but the better solution until you partner and get married.

I posted on FB (back when) that the first friend to get me their mailing address and last four digits of their SS number got dibs on my pension and life insurance.
You can choose charities, my ride or die chose me because he didn't want any of his benefits going to his family members. And I've known people to even choose their pets before.
I will personally walk you through all of your benefits and coverages in exchange for that beneficiary spot lmao or even if you don’t and just want some help. I’ve been working in health insurance for over a decade
