Yeah and introducing a National Minimum Wage would cause mass unemployment. Or so we were told. The Tories even had to negotiate an opt-out from EU rules because they wanted British workers to have the right to be victims of reverse wage auctions. Try explaining that to someone from outside the UK.

So a company would choose to pay recruiting, training and other related costs (such downtime due to recruiting timescales). Rather than sick pay (which is often only 90% of pay for a short period then reduces over a longer term).

Properly run companies measure themselves on staff ‘churn’ because they understand perfectly well the substantial hit on their costs for replacing people. Unless you’re running a sweatshop this isn’t going to happen, and if you are you deserve everything coming.
