Oh, in Dutch it would be "Met de kont voorop de boom ingaan (klimmen)". I think I had the Finnish word for climbing recently when learning Finnish. I would have to see that more.

Kiivetä means climb but in this idiom it’s ”go up the tree” (mennä).

I like this saying instantly, and it definitely describes the spectacle accurately, but it would imply that Trump didn’t get exactly what he wanted aka a reason to dump President Selenskyj, Ukraine and Europe and a way to soften up to russia.
