He's also incredibly wrong about the distance between the U.S. and Russia. After Canada/Mexico, Russia is the next closest nation to the U.S. Their landmasses are separated by 53mi up in the Arctic Circle, and the two islands in the middle (small one is US, big one is Russia) by just 2.8 miles.

For reference, it's about 67mi from West Palm Beach, FL to the closest spot in The Bahamas, and about 105mi from Key West to Cuba.
