Just based on chances of death, we would have to get rid of a lot of sports before football. Not matter what sport your participating in, there are inherent risks and a chance of the worst happing. Sad for this kids family, friends, and fans. 💙
I agree, we should also get rid of combat sports, rugby, and horse-racing. They put lives recklessly at danger. Sports like basketball, soccer, baseball, etc. see deaths as well, but are less frequent.
Hard disagree on all of that. 11 Americans die everyday while swimming. 3 die cycling each day. I got hit by a car cycling this summer. If it was a truck I’d probably be dead. Inherent risks in all sports activities. Doesn’t mean they should be banned in my opinion.
I can see that death is common in every day activities. I think when the injury is coming from someone else like combat sports or football, that’s where I draw the line. Football and combat sports require you to seriously hurt your opponents body.
I’m glad you don’t get to ‘draw the line’. People know the risks and are not forced to compete. Bad things happen sometimes. My biking injury came from someone else. I’m not stopping because I enjoy it and I’m willing to take the risk.
I can’t find anything on the specifics of the actual play that caused the injury during the game. I get that head injuries happen in all sports but this is tragic. It’s hard to watch all the rivalry games today without thinking about this kid. Awful.
