The more I think about it the more irritated I feel about the protagonist swap in Danganronpa V3....... It could have been a 10/10 game if not for this GIANT fumble

I'm so ambivalent cause that twist was probably one of my favourites in the whole series, but I did want the other protagonist it was such a breath of fresh air and it ended all to soon
I don't think any twist, no matter how good, should compromise the continuity of the story. I agree that it was a good twist! But I'm not convinced that it was good for the story they were trying to tell
"But kimi the protagonist swap is a spoiler!" I am not going to do the work of pretending like they don't kill off ANOTHER female chara for the male (true) protagonist's character development when this shit irritates me to no end
As much as I like Shuichi, Kaede should have been the protagonist.
I genuinely think that the story of V3 would have been enhanced with Kaede as protagonist (not just in terms of progress i.e. zero-to-hero format but also in the overall message of the game) and the swap still could have happened if they just started with Shuichi as protagonist (in fact, it would
Kaede would‘ve been so refreshing to see as a protag as she had a completely different feel compared to Naegi & Hajime too while Shuichi just felt like a slightly more timid version of them as protag. He too would‘ve been so much more intriguing if he hadn‘t been forced in as protag.
Yeah! I'm just really sad that we never got to experience the story from Kaede's perspective as I feel like she would have added a (much different and) valuable angle to the story that we just did not get with Shuichi

But until devs divorce the idea that protagonists have to be male by default, there is a limit to the kinds of stories these games can tell
