Ok so I grew up reading the How to Train Your Dragon Books so I had huge issues with the animated movies - totally missed the message of the books showing ‘uncool’ being heroes and not allowing that sort of pressure having power over you etc.
But the live action is a joke on first look

What does being live action bring to this?
He’s an awkward, ginger, left handed boy who discovers that none of those things are actually bad, it’s a great book series for kids.
Toothless isn’t some uber cool dragon either, he’s a tiny common-or-garden dragon but he’s the only dragon that speaks Norse. Being cool wasn’t the point, finding your own way to be was.
I love the movie for simply embracing our imperfections to make us stronger and it seems like the book is such a positive influence!
