OK, folks - Social Security is an *earned* benefit. One pays for it from what one earns. It is a retirement/disability/survivors benefit. The amount received depends on how long we work before we (or our survivors) receive it. *It is not a handout.* It pays us back what we pay in. It is *our* money.
