When the game reaches the max amount of sims(in your gameplay settings) it will not allow any more sims to enter so if you “try for baby” it will not work until a sim is deleted or dies. I usually keep mine at 300 just to have room.

“Unlimited” I wouldn’t recommend it because it slowed down my game. But try it out.
