I've heard through a trusted source that an emergency service here in NSW is switching to Starlink for their comms infrastructure. I wonder how many other emergency services are doing the same, & what happens when the he gets a bee in his schirmmütze with Australia during a natural disaster?

The poor quality, speed & range of NBN is part of problem. Also that NBN towers are on land so get burned out leaving ppl in more danger. Starlink is satellite based, fast, effective in many regional areas. Aukus $$ should be put into our own satellite or UG coms.

Sad thing is starlink works. Communication outside of populations is almost non-existent. A progressive and competent fed gov should have a plan to address this.

Agreed! we shouldn’t allow bonkers! to control essential comms infrastructure. If China is a risk I would argue Musk has no controls operating on him.

It's a terrible piece of infrastructure to have in private hands.
There is very limited scope to introduce competition.
If such a thing is going to exist it should be one, internationally funded, network.
Maybe once the US revolution (inevitably) comes it can be compulsorily acquired.😊

Sadly this is because regional (not necessarily remote) Australia has been left behind by NBN and successive Federal Governments. Minister Rowland talking with Sarah Ferguson on ABC said she wasn’t concerned. #auspol
