There's a few good songs but you know they're mostly doing paint-by-numbers when every single guitar solo is simply the melody repeated as a distorted guitar line. Both Blue and Maladroit have far better versions of power-pop
I love it too but I loved it little more when I thought the utter emotionlessness of it was a deliberate ironic choice after Pinkerton. But they were serious!
This is it. Pinkerton was art and was rejected so I always thought the green album was “you want cookie cutter? here, have 10 songs with literally the exact same structure as the others on the album.” and it was *accidentally* fire. The green album was accidentally good. The Red album rules though.
I think anything from the 1st 3 albums by Weezer is perfect power pop! I'm a big power pop enthusiast, and everything they did at that point reflects that genre well to me
Blue album and Pinkerton made me think (at the time) they were going in the direction of The Pixies. There are pop elements (Buddy Holly) but much of that early music is way more alt. Green album is totally slick power pop and that’s really where they stayed imo
